Unknown sites

During last month I have been selling that loot I found during my previous testing period and bought some new modules and Vexor to get my exploring to a new level.

With new ship I have been scanning now new sites and put my energy also to figure out these unknown sites on high-sec space.

What I have been find worth of doing so far was 3/10 DED site (Sasha’s Command Relay Outpost) and Sasha Watch. Both though take some time to complete with my current skills and ship, but income is decent if you salvage and loot all wrecks.

Command_Relay

Weird though that although I also found some magnetometric and gravimetric sites during the month I was not able to find ANY radars so many wise this month was not that good that previous one. Note though that last night I then find two radars. So those are not totally lost.

During a one mining operation on hidden asteroid belt, my guardian drones also shoot down one True Sasha ship and I got most valuable individual loot item so far: Low-Grade Slave Beta. That was a nice surprise indeed.

I also ran some troubles during last month. Luckily got away alive and ship intact on those. Few times I ran with several others Sasha Watch site because I wasn’t fast enough. Gladly those others didn’t shoot me pieces and they even let me proceed my salvage etc. what I was doing.

Second time I got warning on hidden asteroid belt from fellow miner who proceed my Jetcan and took some ores from there front of my eyes. I think he/she tried to provoke me to shoot him/her but I didn’t see any point on that. I just warped away and marked him/her to my ‘friends’ list with negative standing so I remember to avoid him/her next time.

My next goals are of course find some new sites and check if Crusible expansion actually changed something for example on magnetometric sites. And hopefully find also new radar sites because those seems to still yield best profits.

Happy hunting everyone!

Summary: What I learned?

During last five weeks I have learning basics of exploring. I wanted to know how easy (or hard) is to find sites and how much ISK you can get with a decent amount of time spent a each week.

During that time I found total 145 signatures, six radars, three magnetometric and eight gravimetric sites. As expected radars were most profitable on hi-sec space and quite much time I spend also to mining few gravimetric sites while doing something else. If you calculate probability to find a radar site on my test it was less than 5%.

ExploringMy total playing time was about 27 hours during these few weeks so about 5,5 hours a week. That is a little bit more than I usually spend and I also spend several hours to gather statistics, loot values and write these blogs. I also find out that my reporting template were a little bit too heavy but wanted to keep it same so I can wrap up this test properly.

What a learned? I learned that exploring can be very profitable and I gathered more money (or loot anyway) than I gathered before during my short career. So I would say it IS profitable for newbies also. All sites which I visited were easy to handle even with a small frigate so you don’t need expensive ship and big guns for those.

My loot value is somewhere between 94-120M ISK but we will see in a future how it sell. I’ll start to sell it piece by piece. It is though pretty far from PLEX price, so with this knowledge, I would like to say that it will need way more hours to gather 350M ISK in a month for a ‘free’ subscription…and with that amount of time spend to game I’m not sure if that anymore fun or is that wise. Spending 15€ or less to pay subscription is easier.

One point I’ll have to say though that my testing was not optimal if you think about time I spend. If you strictly scan down lot of sites and ONLY visit radar sites you can get better profit for you time. But I wanted also check out other site types, learn and use a time when I can’t play 100% of my time and concentrate to the game for mining.

Testing period was small and it is too early to answer the question “How much playing time it would take to get 350M ISK?”. If you want to calculate it based with my luck, you need about 24 radar sites. This is based the fact that my loot value from radars was about 88M ISK and that dived to six, it’s about 15M per site. And if it would be 24 sites and to find radar site it was about 4% of the total sites you need to find 580 signatures. Depending your luck and scanning skills it would take time. I don’t say it is impossible because so many have done it, but either my luck on this test was bad, I was on bad region or it just takes lot of more playing time.

I also spend a little money during this test to skills and got some bounty money, but if you consider loot value those both, it was so small amount of money.

In a future I’m definitely continue exploring and my next goal is start checking also unknown sites and learning those. For that I’ll have to buy a new ship and fit that. I got some great setups and ideas from community but I’ll think I’ll start with Vexor  first to learn things. Reason for that is that my current skill set support that ship and fighting setup best.

Send comments using in-game mailing system if you have something to ask and donations are also welcome if you liked this blog series. I might continue this series if there is enough interest among community. But who knows if I continue blogging again and share my experiences along the way while flight to unknown sites and explore low sec space, even if nobody care, just for fun.

Happy hunting everyone and see you in game!

Hacking and mining

This time I ran two different circles. First run was good one. Although  I only located two sites but that first radar site was good one. Second magnetometric site was again disappointment. Only some standard crap loot what you can salvage from any rat you shoot down. Total run worth is anyway about 17.5M because of that radar site.

My second run few days later was better. I found one radar, one magnetometric and four gravimetric sites. Radar one was again success and magnetometric site was again as empty as previous ones. Before gravimetric sites my loot was about this:

loot4

Gravimetric sites I found was mostly Omber based sites from small to large. Omber reprocessing and mining with current market prices is worse than Veldspar, so I decided to skip those. I though find small Kernite deposit and decided to mine all Kernite because minerals from that has better ISK/m3 value.

Scan1

After several hours mining, hauling and reprocessing my total loot from these rounds was something between 40-50M ISK including some loot from rats along the way. Not bad.

Loot6

It is about a month now passed since I started to explore and on my next blog I’ll wrap up what I have learned and reveal my plans for a future. As you might have noticed I have learned several new skills during this time to support my next goals.

Archeology and mining

mining

This post includes two separate runs. On a first run I found on my home system two interesting spots. First one was magnetometric site and I was thrilled. Finally I can see my first one. I prepared for a some resistance with my best ship but site was empty…no rats. Just few debris ‘containers’ and not much worth on that site. So a little disappointment.sites

Then I find average size of gravimetric site. Although I learned on previous round that these take time…and this was even larger I decided to mine as much I can during that three days before site despawn. I spend over 6 hours mining and hauling that and got most mine every Kernite and Golden Omber.

Few days ago I ran whole circle + some extra systems during a hour and find only anomalies and unknown sites. So that was empty run.

Here is the loot I gathered from rats and sites. It is worth of about 10M according EVE Market Data Average prices.

loot3

I also changed EVE Central prices to EVE Market data Average prices on following summary table because EVE Central prices seemed to be out of sync somehow. So total worth of loot is somewhere near 50M currently.

I also learned more processing skills to avoid waste on refining and learned more mechanics and drone skills.

Quick run…not

I was about to go to sleep few nights ago but decided to ‘quickly’ check if I find something. My home system was empty but from next system I found five different sites.

One of them was radar site and I found one Sacred Manifest and got some loot from rats.

radar loot

gravimetric raw loot

I also scanned down a Gravimetric site “Small Jaspet, Kernite and Omber Deposit” and decided the check that out. First I though just to mine Jaspet but end up mining it totally next day while reading and doing something else same time. I wanted to check out how much I can mine and haul and is it worth on ISK.

I also trained Omber and Jaspet processing to get rid of waste while refine. My refine skills are good enough for “perfect” refine, but I still have to pay some taxes to company because my standing is not high enough.

End result from gravimetric site is presented on following loot pictures.

gravimetric loot

So this trip took about 5 hours totally and estimate market price jumped about 10M. I have to agree that Gravimetric sites are not very fast money but in other hand scanning down the site is not harder than radar site and according veteran explorers they don’t even bother to scan those down.  So I think those are pretty safe to mine and most of the time you can do something else while mining and hauling the site so you can earn money pretty safe manner.

Same money would be possible to get also from just standard asteroid belts but hauling point of view in a hidden asteroid belt it is more secure to use Jetcan -method, so it is a litter faster to out mine the site.

More loot

Here is my updated sensor strengths for those you want to know. With Sisters Probe it is 83 and Core Probe 75.5.

ScanningPower2

This round I found one Radar site on my home system but others were just Anomalies or Unknown sites which I skipped. So found some more loot but that site was without rats so no additional loot…only these:

loot2

After that scanning trip I got update to my skills and with my current skills here are new sensor strengths. I hope these help me now even quicker scan down sites to at least to 25% to figure out the type of the site. By the way I noticed that I failed to report on my starting skills that I have Gallente Frigate on level 4. That might explains why my sensor strength is this high with Imicus.

ScanningPower3

Updated statistic and loot info can be found on following tables. Not totally bad trip because that Formation Layout is worth of almost 8M ISK.

First contact

Based on feedback from experienced players, I updated a little my Imicus setup. It now has more speed and has three Acolytes for damage. I’ll switch drones later based on rats.

Imucus Explorer

I was on my way to buy a new Sisters Probe to get better scanning strength but decided to scan first my home system. I found 8 signatures (6 unknown) and started to scan those down.

First one was radar type and I was thrilled. I finally find something. Scanned it down little by little and finally got it 100%.

radar1

ratI recalled my probes and jumped on 30 km range from the site. It includes about 6-8 rats but because I didn’t know how hard those were I started to get closer little by little to get first hits. Those were Centii Servants and I quickly got attention when I went closer. Turned over, kicked my afterburners and launched drones. I was ready to hit armor repair if needed but suddenly I realize something…three targets were gone and I didn’t even got single hit. My Acolyte drones, which I thought would be pretty much useless, dropped those Servants so fast that I didn’t even noticed. I have used to little harder rats on my missions so far.

I killed other rats (or my drones did), cracked those containers and salvaged the wrecks. From the first site I got two Sacred Manifesto and some smaller loot.

Then I returned the the station, did some repairs to drones and scanned second signal. It was also a radar! Scanning that down to 100% took awhile and I was close to call it off. Got it 99.99% and first it seemed that I can’t get it to 100%. But some probe re-arrangement I finally managed to get it done.

Second radar site was pretty much same than previous site regarding difficulty. So it was quite fast farmed. I have to though point out that my drone skills are decent so that helps me a little. I found there one Sacred Manifesto more and one Formation Layout.

It was over midnight on that point so I had to hit the bed and leave those other sites intact. But for 1.5 hour job I was tired but pretty pleased what I got. You can see my gathered statistics below and estimated values on my region and based on EVE-Central info.

Found something…but no paycheck this time

Here are results from my first journey. You can check statistics end of this post but as a summary I found some signatures and scanned every signature at least to 25+% to find out signature group.

Most of sites were Unknown or Cosmic Anomalies but I manage to find two Gravimetric sites, but signals were quite weak and I gave up one of them because I had to go 0,25 AU and just tried to move probes to find if that movement change was good or bad.

Second Gravimetric site based on Type (Small Omber Deposit) seemed not worth of time to use scanning it to 100% and mine after that. Standard Asteroid belts can provide better profit…at least on that case.

What I’m going to do to perform better? I already started to increase my skill level on Astrometric Rangefinding to increase probe strength. Also going to buy one Sisters Core Scanner Probe to help some more.

So about 2.5 hours used to this round without paycheck. I’m getting better with probes so maybe next time I find something. At least I think I will do scanning faster.

My starting point for exploration

I wanted to describe better my starting point before undock to explore unknown territories. Beware now experienced players…you might see something newbie things here, so have fun.

Ships and fittings

As I told I have been invested to mining so far and I want to utilize my current ships I have for now. These are not best in a market for this job but something what I’m planning for use during test period.

My main ship is Osprey which is a T1 mining cruiser. I have currently two main setups for Osprey. One set is for clearing rats in sites and fitting either radar or magnetometric sites (Codebreaker/Analyzer). Other set is for mining for Gravimetric sites if I found something to mine.

EFT_Osprey_Explorer

EFT_Osprey_Miner

For scanning and easy (no rats or only few) radar sites I’m planning to use Imicus. That setup which is on these pictures is more or less scanning setup and I’ll switch Salvager and Codebreaker when entering to sites. We will see how it goes. I might change this setup more faster (Afterburner) from current tanking version if it seems to work better for my playing style. But because I don’t know much what I’m against want to take this approach first.

Imicus_scanning

With my current skills and fitting it will give almost 63 base sensor strength

Preparations for route

Experienced players told that it would be good to make route which you go trough while scanning down the sites. Therefore I planned a route which is a loop near my current home station. I don’t want to point out exact route but it is in Amarr space and systems security standings vary between 0.7-1.0 in this initial nine jump route.
